Going above and beyond: API recognized at BOMA awards
We’re humbled to share that API received the Pinnacle Award for Above & Beyond the Call of Duty at BOMA Edmonton’s annual Awards Celebration last month.
The award recognized API’s efforts in facilitating and supporting ongoing operations at the Biotechnology Business Development Centre. The BBDC is a multi-tenant accelerator in the Edmonton Research Park that offers access to infrastructure and equipment required to scale and commercialize life sciences products and services. Since January 2023, API has made significant and rapid improvements to the facility through efficient building maintenance, tenant relations, and programs that help set tenants up for success.
Thank you BOMA Edmonton for this recognition! This underscores the dedication and commitment of our team at the BBDC. They have really gone the extra mile to successfully onboard and operate this scale-up incubator facility. We look forward to continued collaboration with our partners and supporting the incredible work that’s being done by tenants at the BBDC.
Forging global alliances to enhance readiness for future health crises
Last month, Truong Ta, our VP of Commercialization & Partnerships, joined the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and other leading Canadian life sciences organizations on a mission to Washington, DC.
Aimed at fostering dialogue between supply chain experts, policy makers, and industry leaders from both Canada and US industries, the mission helped identify key strategies and strengthen ties between the two regions. These collaborations will lead to the continuous integration of Canada’s life sciences industry into the global supply chain, enhancing our readiness for future health emergencies.
We’re always honoured to participate in efforts that help fortify the Canadian healthcare system and strengthen our global health security!
Boosting Alberta’s tourism and trade industries in Atlanta
Madison Dubé, our Associate Director of Business Development & Partnerships, had the opportunity to join Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and other ecosystem partners from the region on a tourism trade mission to Atlanta earlier this month.
The trade mission celebrated the inaugural non-stop flight from Edmonton to Atlanta with WestJet, promoting increased opportunities for business and collaboration between the two regions. Atlanta is the world’s busiest airport, with over 200 international and domestic destinations.
“Atlanta is doing innovation right. From their 35 innovation districts, to Atlanta turning their once-struggling midtown into Tech Square, a neighbourhood with 2M+ square feet of private and public space focused on company incubation, research, and innovation, Atlanta is treating their innovation ecosystem for what it is – an economic development powerhouse,” said Dubé in a post.
Thank you Edmonton International Airport, WestJet, and to the whole YEG team for this incredible opportunity!
Empowering careers in the Edmonton tech space
Last month, our team was thrilled to be part of Careers In Technology and Innovation’s YEG Destination Tech event to empower careers for both seasoned and emerging professionals in the Edmonton technology space.
Marina Barbu, Programs Manager, and Chelsey Ammar, HR Specialist, were pleased to share the exciting opportunities we offer at API and connect with many developing professionals to promote rewarding careers in tech and life sciences.
Kudos to CITI for hosting such an incredible event! We’re looking forward to collaborating on future opportunities to support the continued growth of our innovation and tech workforce.

Nimble Science receives funding to accelerate innovative solution for detecting gut health diseases
Nimble Science, a Calgary-based digital health company, announced last month that it has received new funding from Ki Tua Fund for its innovative home-based platform that will help revolutionize the clinical potential of the gut microbiome.
The new funding by Ki Tua Fund enables Nimble Science to accelerate the commercialization of the first end-to-end GI intelligence platform that allows for multi-omic mapping of the small intestine. The SIMBA™ system is a single-use, ingestible passive capsule developed and validated by Nimble Science to collect endoscopic quality samples directly from the small intestine. This technology will allow access to valuable data that will be helpful for the continued research and understanding of the microbiome scientific, therapeutic & diagnostic community.
Nanostics receives funding to support adoption of cancer precision test in North America
Last month, the University of Alberta Innovation Fund (UAIF) announced a new funding investment in Nanostics Inc. to propel the adoption of ClarityDX Prostate in North America.
Launched in Canada in 2023 and accredited in clinical labs in Edmonton, ClarityDX Prostate is an innovative blood test that helps assess the risk of aggressive prostate cancer. It provides critical support to men and healthcare providers in making more informed decisions whether further screening is needed after a high PSA test result.
The funding received from UAIF will allow Nanostics Inc. to expand access and availability of ClarityDX Prostate throughout North America and support the expansion of its product pipeline, including the development of ClarityDX Bladder, a minimally invasive bladder cancer diagnostic test.
