We are actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Strategist, Events & Engagement to lead the planning and execution of events and audience engagement initiatives. Responsibilities include planning and executing API events, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, contributing to event promotion strategies, and reporting on event metrics. The role involves managing event vendors, owning event-related budgets, identifying strategic speaking opportunities, and consulting on trade shows and other audience engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and execute API events and audience engagement initiatives including Life Sciences Week, press conferences, and other activations where the API brand is represented.
  • Own event-related budgets, negotiate with event vendors, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, keeping both internal and external stakeholders accountable to event planning and execution milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Engagement & Brand team to develop and execute event promotion strategies, ensuring events are produced in alignment with API’s brand guidelines and objectives.
  • Collect, evaluate, and report on event and engagement metrics, analyzing data and providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Remain up to date on life sciences events and ecosystem activities to identify strategic speaking, thought leadership, and audience engagement opportunities to position API as a leader in the sector.
  • Provide support and consultation to other departments attending ecosystem and business development events and trade shows.
  • Contribute to other Engagement & Brand team functions and audience engagement initiatives.

Qualifications (Education, Certification, Degree, Skills, Knowledge, etc.)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma; focus in a related field such as event management, production management, or hospitality preferred.
  • Certification in special events management or other related event certification is considered an asset.

Experience

  • 5 years of progressive experience in a position related to event management, planning, or execution.
  • Certification in special events management or other related event certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of sophisticated event technology and applications.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies as they relate to event promotion.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms is considered an asset.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with technical, non-technical, and scientific teams.
  • Strong project management and organization skills, high attention to detail.

  • Strong written communication skills and demonstrated understanding of brand compliance.

Working Conditions

  • Required travel between Edmonton API sites.
  • Available outside of regular working hours on occasion when necessary for event execution; may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
